review: 芙蓉燒蟹海鮮村 (seremban seafood village)

Apparently lazy weekend afternoons stimulate brainwaves - the kind that lead you to drive down to Seremban for baked crabs! 

We drove down to Seremban Seafood Village in the hot afternoon heat - drowsy because we'd already had lunch, but what a dessert! We ordered one baked crab each which came promptly as the restaurant had mostly emptied itself of the lunch crowd.

Crabs are definitely not for dainty eaters - we dispensed with cutlery as we tackled them fingers first. The two crabs weighed about 500 grams each and were very meaty, so we were well rewarded for our labors. With baked crabs, I would recommend that you also suck on the shells as you get that umami, grilled seafood taste coming from contact with high-heat. I can't figure out what they baste the crab with, but it clings beautifully to the shells, and adds a savory undertone to the sweet crab flesh. Definitely worth a try, as you can see from the shells which have been picked clean!
