As we were heading towards the slightly more salubrious air of Bukit Timah, we encountered a slight hiccup on our journey - our taxi driver did not know where Riders Cafe or Fairways Drive was! So when we finally arrived at our destination, the sun was approaching high noon and the entrance to the cafe was beginning to look like a cool oasis from the muggy heat.

Woe to the people who neglect to make a reservation for weekend brunch in Singapore. Riders Cafe, like so many other popular spots, had lines out the door. Fortunately, the waitstaff were quite... er... energetic in moving guests along (as we would soon find out!) so we were able to get a table after a 30 minute wait.

While the daily specials on the board were tempting, I decided to stick with the "usual" - both for me and for the Cafe apparently.

The best thing about my breakfast was probably the tomato - grilled with a sprinkling of herbs, it was juicy and sweet to the taste. The eggs however, were a bit of a disappointment, cooked to a rubbery consistency.

If I were to come back, I think I would forgo the normal brunch fare for the other alternatives on the menu - corn jalapeno hush puppies and a curried crab salad roll sound more intriguing.

You have to hand it to the waiters by the way, they were constantly on the ball, offering to clear plates and glasses the second I put them down! While the attention was appreciated, I think that sometimes this could be borderline intrusive since it made brunch a slightly rushed affair!
